Because it's worth it.

One question that almost every historic tractor owner will ask themselves at one time or another is 'do I need to cover my tractor'. Indeed why should you cover something that is designed to be used outdoors in all weathers?

Well the truth is (and every rusty tractor will testify to this) there are very few historical tractors that won't degrade with time and weather. Storing your tractor in a barn will help alleviate some of the deterioration but can open you up to new problems; animal faeces from the rafters or a lack of air circulation meaning your tractor rarely dries thoroughly.

If your tractor is stored outdoors your biggest worries have to be rain (and even more if your area suffers from acid rain), UV light (sunlight) and any environmental pollutants like tree sap if you happen to park under a tree.

If you are lucky enough to have a barn or shed to store your tractor in you can still suffer from all of the outdoor problems. Think of wind driven rain, leaky roofs and sunlight coming through windows or skylights. However the main problem for sheltered storage is the collection of dirt and dust (much of which is composed of animal excrement from birds, bats and rats).

Our answer is of course that you will always benefit from using a cover but we think you should always follow a few simple rules and use some commonsense along with your cover.

  • REDmarble's tips for Cover Success
  • 1. Never use a completely waterproof cover, breathability is so important.
  • 2. Never put a cover on a wet and/or dirty tractor.
  • 3. Don't use a badly fitting cover. Get a cover tailored for your tractor.
  • 4. Always check under your cover and if you have a bit of condensation take the cover off on a nice day to let it dry.

Having established that you should be using a cover; what sort of covers can we offer you.

These whole tractor outdoor-use protective covers have been designed to give a tailored fit. They are suitable if your tractor is in long term storage, or in every day use and can be used continuously outdoors as well as inside a barn or storage area. A lot of time went into choosing the fabric we use for these covers, the careful balance of waterproofing and breathability means that these covers can be used anywhere.

Some tractors have a cab as standard from the manufacturer, the cover we supply for these models will take this into account. We are aware that a few tractors have cabs that were not fitted originally by the manufacturer but instead are aftermarket additions done by a dealer or the purchaser. When we have already encountered this you may see that we list tractor models as With Cab and No Cab to make sure that you buy the correct cover. Otherwise the covers we are listing will only fit an original tractor, if you think your tractor has extensive aftermarket alterations it might be wise to talk to us first about which cover you need.

We always use breathable fabrics suitable for continuous outdoor use protecting against the freezing ravages of winter and the heat and Ultraviolet of summer. Elastication and a simple to use strap system holds the cover in place.

  • Protection from natural pollutants like bird droppings and tree sap, snow and ice, acid rain, industrial pollutants, ultra-violet radiation and hot sunshine if used outside. Also protects from dust and airborne dirt if used inside.
  • Suitable for all-year-round outdoor use as well as being used inside.
  • Highly effective theft deterrent. What can't be seen is less of a temptation.
  • All our covers are supplied with their own stowage bag.

The exhaust stack and (if applicable) air filter must be removed for the cover to fit properly. If you want to keep these in place we can fit pockets. There is an extra £20 per pocket cost. Please contact us at the same time as making your purchase if you require pockets and full instructions will be included with your cover. Also if you have a roll bar fitted that does not fold down we can add a dedicated slot for the roll bar to protrude through the cover. This roll bar slot has a fitted tab that Velcros closed between the upright bars to combat water ingress, a roll bar slot will normally incur a charge of £40.

Care for your classic tractor. Whether a restored tractor you have purchased or one you have labored lovingly to restore yourself, or one in original condition, what better way to ensure it remains protected!

NOTE: The fit of the cover can depend greatly on the track of the wheels. There are several ways the width of the track can be changed, from simply moving the front wheels wider on the tracking bar to turning the back wheels around to provide a wider width. The fit of the cover assumes minimum track of all wheels. It will fit over the tractor if the track is wider but may end up being tighter than our picture shows.

If you cannot find your tractor in any of our listings all is not lost as we may already have a cover that fits, or we might be interested in adding to our existing range of covers.
